Joyce Day, Ph.D. is a licensed psychotherapist and consultant in private practice and has been actively involved in both the fields of mental health and education for over two decades. A native of Connecticut, Dr. Day received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, CT.  She then completed both her Masters of Science and 6th year degree (CAGS) in Educational Psychology/School Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston. Dr. Day’s Ph.D. in Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine was obtained from Northcentral University in Arizona. Dr. Day also has specialized training in nutritional and intergrative medicine for mental health, mindfulness, and is a registered yoga instructor (RYT 300; MYNT Kid Yoga). Weaving together Western and Eastern psychological practices, Dr. Day offers a wise and caring approach in applying both evidenced based clinical interventions with complementary alternative therapies to empower individuals to find pathways towards their highest potential.

Dr. Day is a board and state certified school psychologist and licensed professional counselor. The early part of her career was spent working as a school psychologist for ten years in both suburban and urban priority school districts, at public and alternative schools, and spanning both elementary and secondary levels. In doing so, she had the opportunity to work with culturally diverse families, students, and colleagues. Dr. Day has evaluated and worked with a wide range of clinical presentations and has psychologically evaluated developmentally delayed, academically and behaviorally challenged, medically compromised, psychiatrically compromised, and neurologically impaired infants, children, adolescents, and their families.

While employed as a school psychologist Dr. Day also saw individuals, children, and families at night for various group private practices. In addition, Dr. Day has also been a guest speaker at the University of Saint Joseph and has held adjunct faculty appointments at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) and Tunxis Community College (TXCC) for the past sixteen years. In 2010, Dr. Day held a full-time, tenure track professorship at Gateway Community College in New Haven, CT. Faced with the challenge to find more work and family balance in her own life, Dr. Day made the bold decision to resign from her tenure track professorship and opened up her own private practice. Dr. Day considers her daughter and son her greatest credentials.

My Story

Although I have been classically trained in many empirically supported and evidence based treatment models, and have worked in a variety of professional settings that have challenged my educational and mental health paradigms, I also believe in the power of those things you can’t measure. My world drastically changed after I became a mother. My family is my number one priority. Parenthood required me to consciously reflect on and realign the decisions I make for myself, my career, and my family. It is because of these bold decisions that I am passionate about guiding individuals to live in an examined and meaningful way, by cultivating authenticity in our connections and really examining the "why". I am collaborative and realistic in my approach. Past clients have described me as insightful, polished, forward thinking, patient yet direct, and incredibly loyal.

I am a wife and a mother to two amazing kids. Though I have an extensive professional skill set, I consider my children to be my wisest teachers and greatest credentials.
