Frequently Asked Questions:

Here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions. If you have questions that are not addressed below please feel free to call or email.

What can I expect during the initial intake?

Before we meet for our first visit, I will have already reviewed your intake paperwork in which you will describe some of the reasons you are seeking treatment and your goals. Our first meeting will last between 60-90 minutes and will allow us to review in more detail some of your responses to the intake paperwork as well as my practice policies and procedures, and of course, any questions you may have.

If I am seeking treatment for my child, are parents expected to be involved in the session?

All intakes for minor children are typically done in three sessions, first with the parent(s)/guardian(s), second with the child individually, and finally with the parent(s)/guardian(s) for the third and final time. These three meeting sessions allow me time to meet individually to assess an appropriate plan with everyone's needs in mind. Overall treatment progress and goals will be shared and reviewed with everyone at regular intervals, but on-going therapy sessions after the intake will primarily involve the child as the client. The amount of parent involvement will also vary depending on treatment goals, the client's age, and other factors.

How long can I expect to be in therapy?

It’s difficult to predict the amount of sessions clients should consider as part of their treatment package, as each person has unique treatment goals and circumstances. However, I am solution focused in my mindset, meaning, it is more important to me that you gain skills, habits, and a mindset focus that enables you to live in a healthy and independent manner. It's also important to note, length of treatment also depends on how much work YOU are willing to put into our sessions. If choosing to work with me, we will review progress in regular intervals and determine together when it is time to decrease the frequency of our sessions and when it is time to terminate services after treatment goals are met.
